I give because I believe what I’ve been given is put to best use when it’s shared with others. Giving is one way I can show gratitude and respect for what I have.
How long have you been volunteering at CHC?
I’ve been volunteering at CHC for about eight months.
Why did you choose to volunteer with CHC?
I started volunteering at CHC because I thought its mission was a creative way to address health care access disparities.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
Interacting with the patients is definitely the best part of volunteering. I helps me understand the impact the organization is having on the community.
Where are you from?
My dad was in the Army, so we lived all over the South, in Germany, and in Hawaii. But I say I’m from Provo because I’ve lived here for almost 5 years.
What is your background, training, school, profession, etc?
I studied Neuroscience and Spanish at BYU. Since I graduated, I’ve been doing antibiotics-related research for the BYU Chemistry Department.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love to read, watch movies with my wife, and spend time with Henry (our little son). In the warmer months, we like to go on family walks and hikes.
Why do you believe volunteering is important?
Volunteering brings communities together and connects people in a special way. It builds trust, cooperation, and compassion in people with different backgrounds and experiences and just helps us be better.
What would you say to others in the community considering volunteering?
Volunteering at CHC has been extremely rewarding and I recommend it to anyone interested in helping people in the immediate community.
